Another one. Another massacre at the hands of a reprieved soul. Another news feature lobbying against government policies. When do we divert our attention away from that of gun laws and examine with more intent, the issue of mental health.
The facts are apparent, we have a president married to the NRA (National Rifle Association). Changing his values will require a great deal of efforts in which we should not retreat.
What can each of us do in the meantime?
These shooters are troubled, mentally. Looking at each situation, the shooter has been pushed beyond their “limits” … but haven’t we all? To say a person has never been outraged beyond normal characteristics would be the largest lie we’ve ever told.
What is really going on then?
Looking at depression, I ask are we really doing everything possible to address it, or do we prescribe what’s easiest, cheapest, fastest? An even deeper question, are we defining depression properly?
Are we loving others the right way, or are we simply loving those who are easy to love? Do we really know how to love, a true love that is nourishing for the recipient, or are we just building up our own resumé suitable to get us through the gates of heaven?
Are we paying attention to people beyond what we see on our social media screens; are we paying attention to ourselves...
